In today’s corporate world, a picture does tell a thousand words. How you present yourself to the outside world can be the difference between securing that contract, or a place of employment.
At JL Images we are experts in taking that perfect headshot whether it be for a brochure, business card or for a corporate website. However, here are a few tips you can take into account before the shoot.
First, you have to know your market. By this we mean, if you are applying for a job in a bank or corporate office, or you are starting a business that will be associated with multi-national corporations, then you need to dress like you mean business. Even though it’s a head shot you can still look the part and dress accordingly. No nose, lip or eyebrow rings, and a conservative haircut will do the trick. On the other hand, if you are interacting with the film industry or a trendy fashion label, then you would probably get away with a more relaxed look. Whether you like it or not, people are going to judge you by the photo you put up.
You also need to take into account the background. Unless you are trying to brand a product (ie, the picture is for a business card), then keep the background colour neutral. Why go out on a limb when it is not necessary?
If you are unsure of what type of look a company is going for, go to their website and see what they have on offer. Most have an “About Us” section, so that should give you a few clues as to what the company expectations are and what they want from people they deal with whether you are trying to gain employment, or are wishing for them to become a client. Bear this in mind when getting the shot taken.
If you are unsure, and need some expert advice, then talk to us when you call up to book. We’ll walk you through the various scenarios and not only offer up sound advice, but we’ll make you look good, giving you the best chance to succeed in your endeavours.
